Ordinary search shows the ticket sold as one booking for your dates. Smart search builds the trip from several flight tickets, hubs and dates around yours — and shows only the options that really cost less than the usual ticket.

What it does
Two tickets instead of one
Compares a return booked as one order with two one-way tickets from different airlines and agencies. Two halves together are sometimes noticeably cheaper than the whole.
Hub connection on separate tickets
Tries up to five major hubs each way: flying to Bangkok or Saigon on one ticket and on with another is often cheaper than a single booking. At least 4 hours to connect, 6 if you change airports.
Different ways out and back
Outbound and return are searched separately: out via Hanoi, back via Saigon, if that is cheaper. Circular routes come together on their own.
Flexible dates
±1 or ±3 days around your dates: it checks every pair of departure and return and shows how much you save by shifting.
Only what's worth it
Saving 2% at the cost of a night at the airport isn't saving. An option makes the list only if it's at least 3% below the usual fare, and each inconvenience — a night at a transfer, leaving the day before, arriving a day later — raises the bar by another 5%.
Honest about the risks
Every option shows the price, the saving in money and percent, every leg with airport codes and its own “Buy” button per ticket. With separate tickets we warn you: nobody guarantees the connection, bags must be collected and checked in again, and you may need a visa for the transfer country.
